HOPE IN THE MIDST OF HOPELESSNESS (Repost)

Sometimes we encounter or go through circumstances in our life when we do not understand what is happening.  It seems everything is wrong, and there is no way out.  Darkness is all around, and fear is lurking deep within.  During these times, we seem to ask where is God.  Or why is God allowing these things to happen.  In fact, some even blame God for what’s happening to them which in fact is merely a result of their wrong choices.  Seems no  hope.

But amidst the seeming hopelessness, there is hope.  The Bible relates stories of three persons who went thru such ordeal only to find hope and victory in the end.

The first was Joseph known as the Dreamer.  Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob his first born from his beloved wife Rachel.  Just as much as Jacob loved Rachel, he showed the same endearment to Joseph.  Such love was so obvious that Joseph’s brothers envied him.  On the other hand, Joseph became arrogant and boastful bringing news of  his brother’s activities to their father.  His brothers resented him even more which eventually lead to plotting evil against their own brother.

joseph

Joseph’s disappointment after disappointment.  His brothers became one in turning against him.  He was taken from his homeland Israel to Egypt far from home of much different culture and language.  He was sold as a slave to a ruthless man.  Was accused of attempting to rape his master’s scheming wife.  Was thrown into prison.

But during these times, Joseph was not deterred.  He remained steadfast, and did his work excellently.  No matter what the chore may have been, no matter how trivial, he gave his best.

Then God’s deliverance came.  The Bible says God was with Joseph.  All through those lonely perplexing times from a teenager to an adult, God guided the steps of Joseph.  He was there all the way.  He molded Joseph thru the passage of time.  And when the time was ripe and the man having learned and acquired the skills needed and was prepared to lead, he was delivered thru the Pharaoh’s dream and became the second in the foreign land next to no one except the Pharaoh himself.

In his hopelessness, Joseph found hope in God.  He learned to trust God and do his best and eventually his hope bore fruit with rewards beyond his wildest dream.

The second recorded person who went through hopelessness was Peter.  He was imprisoned not for his own making but simply because of the whimsical gratification of King Herod to please the Jews who were delighted with the death of James whom the king struck with a sword.

peter

Chained between two prison guards, Peter might have questioned God for such seemingly unfair treatment.  He left his family and profession for the sake of the gospel of Christ, and this is what he got in return.  But Peter learned thru the years that God is faithful.  He slept soundly on the eve of his death verdict.

God’s deliverance came miraculously when an angel was sent to take him out of prison.  The angel had to strike Peter on the side to wake him up because Peter was fast asleep not worrying what tomorrow would bring.  His weapon was the ceaseless prayer of the church for him that opened the heaven’s door and sent down an angel of God to deliver him.

In his hopelessness, Peter found God’s faithfulness as his anchor of hope.  God molded Peter through the years through many circumstances in his life.  He became a changed man.  From being hot tempered and self-assuring yet weak, Peter became a reasonable and strong.  And sure enough, the enemy did not prevail against him in taking away his life needlessly for God did not fail him.

Thirdly, the event of Paul with Silas was recorded to show that amidst hopelessness hope would shine.

Paul was imprisoned because he rebuked the evil spirit in a slave young girl who was a fortune teller to the consternation of his masters who lost income who sent Paul to prison.  But inside the prison, Paul was not moved.  Together with Silas, in the middle of the night he prayed and sang hymns.  He went through enough sufferings and God’s deliverance that he was sure the hand of God would move.  Rescued or not, he would praise God.

paul

Honoring his servants’ faith, God sent a mighty earthquake so strong that it unshackled the prisoners. This event became a turning point for the prisoners and the jailer for in that moment they believed in God and turned their hearts to Christ. Paul’s seeming disappointment became an opportunity for the gospel to be preached and seen in action leading many to salvation thru Christ Jesus.

Praising God in the midst of hopelessness was Paul’s way of finding freedom.

So in the midst of hopelessness, remember:

1.  Look for the good things in your circumstances.  Do your best still.  Have faith.  Look at the rainbows not the rain.  Plant good seeds and not bitter seeds for in the end you will reap good harvest;

2. Pray.  Prayer is a weapon so powerful that even heaven is opened to send relief for you.  Pray individually, corporately, with prayer partner;

3.  Praise God.  Sing melody from your heart.  When you wake up afraid and worried, sing to God instead of crying or murmuring.  You will see wonderful things that will happen in your life.  Praise and worship is so powerful a weapon that even things unmovable would be shaken to free you.

Above all, remember that there is One who went through the way of hopelessness even death so that you would find hope.  His Name is Jesus Christ!  He did not give up on you even in Gethsemane when He would have the chance to run away knowing and seeing the unspeakable sufferings and humiliation he would have to go through.  His blood that was shed in Calvary cleanses all the blot of hopelessness in your life.  He loves you so much that he willingly went through the dark hopelessness for you to have the shining hope.

JESUS CHRIST

He loves you.  That is the only reason for doing all these.  So in the midst of your seeming hopeless situation, don’t give up.  Hold on to Christ.  Believe in Him.  Deliverance is on the way, and it would surely come.  Have faith.

WHY ARE PRAYERS NOT ANSWERED?

We wonder sometimes why are prayers are not being answered especially in times we need help badly.  It seems heaven’s door has closed on us, and we are put in a situation we do not know what to do or to whom to turn to.

shackled hands

There are five (5) basic things that could help us unlock heaven’s door, and allow our prayers unhindered, thus, the answer to our prayers just flow freely.  These are:

  1. Remove sin from our lives;
  2. Do not rob God;
  3. Pray for others;
  4. Pray for Israel;
  5. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sin is like a cork in a bottle that closes the container.

cork bottle

No matter how free flowing the water that runs towards it, the water just could not get inside because there is a matter that blocks the liquid to flow in.  In the same manner, sin will not be allowed in heaven so everytime you come to God’s throne that sin could not let you inside the place where God is, and hinders you from allowing you to have an audience with God.  The Bible says, “your sin has separated you from your God,” although God’s hand is not short that it cannot save nor His ear heavy that He cannot hear you.  Has He not created both ears and hand?  And will He not then be willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, if you need it?  But then, sin blocks your prayers.  Remove sin from your life.  Confess those sins, and leave them behind.  They are not worth clinging unto because you forfeit yourself of the many blessings that you could have received and will ever receive.

Next,  a robber is considered a criminal no matter who he is, what is his color, race, or status.  Robbery is a universal offense.  When a person rob another individual, he is liable to pay for his guilt.

robber

How much more when an individual robs God?  The Bible clearly states that those (specifically God’s people) who fail to give their tithes to God is robbing Him.  And what is the consequence of such action?  Yout prayers are not heard.  It is not that God is interested with your offering, because He owns everything.  It is a covenant between you and Him that you give what belongs to Him, and you will receive that which belongs to you, and even so much more because no one can outgive God.

Thirdly, praying for others bring answers to our prayers as well.  Look at it this way.  When you knock heaven’s door, and when it is opened, you say, “Good Lord, this person here who is with me has no shoes, will you give him one?”  And when God looks at you, He notices that you, too, do not have shoes either.  Do you think He will give shoes only to the one you are with?  Definitely not, He will give you shoes as well.  Perhaps better than what He will to that person for whom you are asking for.  There are many testimonies that manifest that indeed as they pray for others, their needs are met also more than what they asked for.

There are many testimonies that manifest that indeed as they pray for others, their needs are met also more than what they asked for.

praying for others 2

Praying for the nation Israel, more particularly the peace of Jerusalem, brings blessings to those who do it.

israel

This is a covenant promise made by God to Abraham when He said “I will bless those who bless you.”  Clearly, the psalmist in the Bible left this admonition to the readers that looking for the good of this chosen nation will be rewarded.  Israel is the apple of God’s eye, and when we take care of this nation, then God will take care of us, too.

Sinful as we are, we do not have the right to come to God’s throne on our own.  How can a holy God be approached by a sinner like us?  His throne is surrounded with fire, and He Himself is a consuming fire.  Who can ever approach such a Deity?  But there is One and only One who had earned the right to approach the Kingly throne. His name is Jesus, the Christ.

lamb of God

When He offered Himself as a sacrificial Lamb of God, God was appeased!  He accepted that offering as a pleasing aroma, and He smiled and His heart was glad.  So when we come to God’s throne for our petitions, we come in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Everytime, we passed thru the blood of Christ, we are made clean and we can freely approach God’s throne.

throne of God image

And if we know that He hears us, we are confident that we ask for will be answered.

So if your longings have not been answered yet, look at yourself through these mirrors, and do what is best.  Soon, you will see heaven open and the Son of God Himself answering your prayers for He Himself said,  “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

MY GREATEST VALENTINE GIFT

During Valentine’s Day, most people seem to feel romantic.  Young and old, they feel the tingling sensation of love.  They smile when love is mentioned.  Somehow, they reminisce and cherish their own love life.   While some news may not interest them, the mention of love makes the ears open.

th

Heart’s Day is one special occasion celebrated by Filipinos.  It is said that Valentine cards come next to Christmas cards as far as sales is concerned.  The message of the heart is expressed thru written words.

Love in the air seems to vanish as soon as February 14 passes.  People go back to their own pace, and the mention of love, courtship, and marriage simply evaporate with the memory of the love day. All the hustle and bustle seem not to have transpired at all.  The twinkling eyes and sweet talks fly away.

But there is one great Lover who never stops loving.  To Him, everyday is a Heart Day.  He always has endearing words, not the type that gives lies but sincere, deep love.

th (1)

His Name is Jesus Christ.  He showed His love by stretching His hand, and saying “I love you this much.  If I were to take this road over and over again, I will do it for you even if you are the last person standing on earth.”

When He gave His life for us, He did not consider the cost but put highest premium to showing His love by reaching forth to those in darkness with His nail-pierced hand.  It doesn’t how many needs love.  His all-sufficient love is more than enough for everyone.  His love is not time-bound.  It does not look at the age.  Status and achievements are not flattering to Him.  Gold and silver cannot dare buy His incomparable love.  A sinner who sincerely comes to Him, no matter how deep and scarlet his sins are, is accepted with open arms.

What then inspires Him to love?  Nothing.  Love is simply as He is because He is love.  Love comes naturally from Him.  No greater can ever compare to His love for everyone.  He will not break your heart but will mend it with His love.

th (2)

Looking for true love this valentine’s?  Look no more.  He is just a whisper away from you.  Listen to Him saying to you, “I love you.” Dry your tears, and feel God’s embrace for you.  That will strengthen you, Valentine’s Day or not.  His heart, your home.

TALKING TO GOD

When we were just kids, we liked to talk a lot.  We uttered things that seemed irrelevant to adults but highly important to us.  We made comments.  We asked questions.  But as we grow older, we tend to become silent.  Words are getting fewer to most of us.  Questions rarely come out maybe because we do not wish to be branded as unknowledgeable. Comments come in the form of criticism.

Man was designed for communication.  In the beginning, God created him to be in God’s image.  He is a talking being.  Not only does he see, but more importantly he talks.  This ability is given to him by His Creator because Gods wants to fellowship with man.

In the cool of the day, the Omnipotent loving God would come and talk to Adam and Eve.  He loved having conversation with them like a friend to his comrade or a father to his child.  They spent wonderful fellowship in eternity because in the beginning man was not bound by time.  He lived in the same sphere  as God.  No death; just a continuous blissful life with no worries.

th

During these moments, Adam and Eve just talk to God without qualms, without barriers, without reservation.  What could have they been talking about?  Maybe they laughed together, planned together, played together.

th (1)

Then one day, the old serpent visited them.  Envious that God would talk to clay-beings while he was thrown out of the presence of the Almighty, he lured the first man and woman into sinning against God.

When God arrived for the supposed talking session, Adam and Eve for the first time where nowhere to be found.  They hid from God because they were ashamed.  From then on, man could no longer approach God as before.  And God would not commune with man without a sacrifice.  The communication barrier, that is, sin, was established.

If Adam wanted to talk to God, he needed to offer a peace offering so that God would come down and talk to them.  The sweet aroma of an unblemished lamb became a pass for them to approach the throne of God.  No more were the days when with just a word, God would with be there for them.

God came down to Mount Sinai during the time of Moses to give His commandments to the people of Israel so that they will walk in accordance with what His standards, but the people became afraid of God’s presence.  They trembled at His coming, at His voice.  Again, the ordinance of a sin offering, peace offering was instituted for the sin of man to be covered and for him to approach God.

th (2)

Then, Jesus, the Lamb of God, came to earth.  He bore all of man’s sins thru His sacrificial death on the cross.  He was offered as a sacrifice.  His death became a sweet aroma before God.  Now, man need not bring a lamb to be offered to God.  He can simply approach God in Jesus’ Name because the blood of the Lamb of God cleanses any sin so that everytime man comes to God, there is no spot or wrinkle found in the believer.  He is free to approach God.

th (3)

th (4)

The relationship back then in the Garden of Eden before man sinned was restore.  God and man can now freely talk to each other like before.  In the cool of the day, God comes down again and talks to whomsoever is willing to talk to Him.

So as often as we need to seek God, the door is wide open for those who accepted the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ in Calvary.

th (5)

Why don’t you do that today?  He loves you more than you would understand.  There’s no need for you to carry your burdens alone.  Jesus Christ bore these all for you.  Reach out to Him.

2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,900 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 48 trips to carry that many people.

BROKEN WINGS

Madame Butterfly flew into the garden she has been familiar with for so long.  Today though she was different.  She is not what she used to be.

images

She has broken wings.  Yet despite her disability, she moves from one flower to another sipping the nectar as she has been designed to by her Creator.

We, too, may have broken wings.  While we used to fly high and gay, we now experience limitations.  The harsh realities of life might have caused our wings to be broken, and we couldn’t do anything about it.

index

We have two options before us.  Continue to fly or sit in stagnation.  Madame Butterfly chose to fly.  Her lack of whole wings did not deter her from enjoying life.  Yes, she may no longer be as strong as before but this did not prevent her to be grateful for what is left in her and with her.  If creatures of lower degree could continue to live life and be contented with it, how much more should we who are created after the image of God be up and about doing our own thing.

Our broken wings representing broken dreams, lost opportunities, unrequited love, demised loved ones, hurts, pains, lost of everything, and many more are not hindrances for us to live life to the fullest.  Let us lift our eyes and open our hearts to the  One who created us, and be thankful.  Tell Him about your broken wings and ask Him to restore them as He sees fit.  But if they remain broken still, then trust Him who knows that He is your wind beneath your broken wings.  And what powerful wind there could ever be than Him.

index1

In the wake Yolanda (Haiyan) tragedy in the Philippines, as we struggle to live, may our hearts continue to be tender towards God that He is in full control of the situation.  We may not understand what happened and is happening, but be at peace for He said “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”  Be still and know that He is God.  Everything will be alright.

index2

Prayer:  It will be hard but let me fly again, Lord, knowing I will not fall because You are there with me.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.

HE KNOWS MY WEAKNESSES

Have you heard of the story about the Cracked Earthen Vessel?  Here goes the story:

is

There was a water carrier.  In the olden times, water is drawn from the well and placed inside earthen vessel. What the water carrier did was to hang one earthen vessel on the one side of a bamboo pole and another on the other side of a pole. He will then carry this pole at the back of his neck balancing as he walks.  Day after day, the water carrier did this.

However, while one earthen vessel is whole the other one had a crack.  Water seeps from this crack everytime the water carrier would put in water in it.  As he walks home from the well water would drip.  As soon as he arrives home, the cracked earthen vessel would be half empty.

One day, the whole earthen vessel said to the cracked, “Are you not ashamed that you are not giving justice to the labor of our master?  While he is carrying day in and day out, you would supply him half only of what I am giving him?”  The cracked vessel was so ashamed and sad.

When the water carrier saw it, he asked, “Why do you look sad?”  The vessel replied, “Oh master, I am sorry.  I am so ashamed that I do not supply you water as I should.  While you fill me to the brim when you fetch water, I turn out half of it only.  What a shame.”

The master could not help but smile at the comment of the cracked vessel.  He said to it, “You know my friend, I knew all along your weakness but still I carried you through.  But I used your weakness to make strength out of it.”

The vessel was perplexed, “How is that?  What do you mean?”  “Come outside,” replied his master.  “I knew that you were dripping water so I planted seeds on the lines where you would pass.  Look for yourself!  The seeds have now grown.  These beautiful plants are your making.”

The vessel was so delighted.  He was glad that the master did not look at his weakness but he used his them for a greater purpose.

Do you know that that water carrier can be likened to God?  He carries you no matter who you are.  He knows you very well.  Your strengths as well as your weaknesses.  In fact, He knows you more than you ever know yourself.

He believes in you.  This you should always be reminded of in times when you feel unsure of yourself and you think you are worthless.  Do you know why you are important to Him?  Because He created you Himself!  He breathed in you His breath.  The breath of God is in you.  You are His.  How could He forget you?  Every time you breath, He hears you.

To prove that He loves you and does not want you to perish, He gave Himself for you.  The only begotten Son of God, Jesus is His Name, who is in the bossom of the Father, went down on earth taking the form of an earthen vessel the human flesh so that you will understand His love for you.  Your earthen vessel in which you were created was supposed to be burned in hell forever, but He decided that He could not stand seeing you there.

is2

So He took off His godship garment and put on the flesh of a man, lived like a man, suffered, died but eventually rose to life so that He can proclaim that man need not suffer because the Creator Himself did this for man.  Hallelujah!  Praise God!

Don’t you worry now.  Accept that gift of God gave to you.  His life for your life.  His light for your darkness.  His strength for your weakness.  His eternal abode for your supposed death in hell.

Remember, God loves you.

HOLD MY HAND, LORD

11709631-father-giving-hand-to-a-childWhen we read about the temptation of man and his eventual fall and separation from God, our initial reaction might be (although subconsciously) is that it seemed unfair.  For a simple mistake, man was separated from God and died doomed for eternal judgment.  Was God not considerate?

The truth is man was created perfect, both Adam and Eve.  They fully understood what they were doing.  They had wisdom far more deeper and wider than anyone else before them because they were perfect.

Yet they chose to disobey God.  They rather chose the voice of the tempter.  It was a sign that despite of what they were and what they had, they were not contented to become who they were – perfect in all and clothed with the glory of God – but wanted to be more superior, be like God and perhaps even surpass God Himself.  In order words, there was utter rebellion.

Their disobedience therefore was not superficial but a declaration of war against God.  They were in effect saying, ‘You are lying, God.’, and believed the serpent, which was a mere creature lower than them.

The good news is that though man was at war with God, the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ Himself, came down to earth to reconcile man and God.  He took the hands of man and God, and put them back together thru the cross.  Now those who are in Christ Jesus, that is holding His hands, are no longer in condemnation.

Prayer:  Hold my hand, Lord, and never let me go.

GOD’S WONDERFUL DEALINGS IN THE PHILIPPINES

The Philippines is the known as the Pearl of the Orient Sea.  And indeed it is!  A beautiful land composed of more than 7,000 islands nestled in a very strategic location.  Rich in resources and inhabited by one of the happiest people on earth.

                                                                    BORACAY

                                                                  PALAWAN

                                                      UNDERGROUND RIVER

                                                        BANAWE RICE TERRACES

                                                           MAKATI CITY

We see this great nation, a nation so blessed, yet so poor and sick.

It’s because of sin, not of the leaders only but even the entire Filipino people.  Sin is so prevalent in the nation.  We have turned our ears deaf to what is known as sin.  We have closed our eyes to what we know is sin.  Our senses have become so calloused to sin.  Sin no longer haunts.  They have become part of us as a people.

“If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7: 14).

The mandate of God is clear and simple.  Turn from our wicked ways! Call to Him.  Then He will listen and He will forgive our sin and heal our land.

Repent, people of God!  Let us turn from our sins.  God says He will visit the iniquity of the fathers to the third up to the fourth generation.  Your sins will find you out.  Your fourth generation will reap the sin that you committed or are now committing.  Because the seed of sin that you reap now will bear fruit up until the fourth generation and might even become worst than what you have sown.

But God is a merciful and loving God.  He says He will show His mercy to thousands of generations to those who will love Him.  Love Him now and see the fruition of that love not only in your lifetime but up to the thousands of generation.  Break the generation gap. Let the blood of Jesus Christ cleanse you from the curse of sin – yours and that of the generations to come.

Come to Christ today.  Give your heart to Him.  Let Him cleanse you.
